A Change for the Better
By: Rocket Racer
(I thought of making the beginning of the Fifi/Furrball relationship before "Blue Fume Moon."
Some of this stuff may not make sense, but I hope you get it in the end. Enjoy!)
Chapter 1: Broken Hearts
It was a new day at ACME Looniversity and the toonsters were doing their daily routine:
arrive to school, get their books out of their lockers, and get to their respective classes.
Today, Porky Pig was going to show the class the ways of ending a cartoon in style!
As he was talking, Hamton J. Pig whispered to Fifi La Fume, "Hey Fifi, you wanna go
out for dinner tonight?"
And Fifi responded, "Oui! I would love to!" And the two turned their heads back to the
teacher so they won't get in trouble.
Then a voice comes over the intercom: Attention students, we have been informed that
we will have a new student in our school this year. Thank you for your cooperation." As the
intercom was off, the students were wondering who this "new student" was.
Then 5 minutes later, the door began to creak open and the entire class turned their
head over to their right and saw the student. She was a pig, who wore a pink T-shirt, a jean
skirt, and black pants. The kids just stared at her for a while and no one said anything until
Porky spoke up: This is-s-s Sophia K-k-Kayla Pig."
And the student responded, "You can call me Sophie though. Hmmm. Very nice class indeed."
She sat in front of Hamton and he couldn't help, but stare at her for the longest time, which
of course makes Fifi a little jealous. A few of the toonsters caught on and whispered that "Sophie"
looked pretty cute.
At the end of the school day Fifi went to look for Hamton, but he was nowhere to be
seen. As she walked along the sidewalk to her Cadillac, she soon spotted him...with the new
student! Fifi was very surprised to see them having a little milkshake at the Weenie Burger
and they talked and giggled to each other. Not wanting to see anymore, Fifi turned and walked
away.
The next day at the lockers, Fifi ran to catch up with Hamton and said, "Hamton, I
thought vous said that WE were goeeng to have dinner last night."
Hamton shyly replied, "Oh, I'm sorry Fifi, but I was having a good time with Sophia.
She likes my clean personality, gives me good tips, and well," he paused, not wanting to upset
Fifi. "She's my own species."
The last line shocked her the most. "What do vous mean?"
"Well," he continued. "My family has been concerned of you and me. They think that being
with a different species isn't going to work out. They always tell me that I'll be successful
when I date someone like me, but I didn't believe them. Now I do."
"Vous mean," Fifi sadly said. "We can't be togezer?"
Hamton just said one thing in response, "I'm sorry Fifi, really I am." And with that,
he ran away and turned the corner.
Fifi stood still for a moment and she dropped to her knees. "Zat also means zat I'm
alone again." She fought back the tears in her eyes. "Eet haz always been zis way! When I zhought
I had zhe boy of my dreams, he eez soon gone and he abandons me. Why Fifi? Why doesn't anyone
love you?" She soon broke into sob and in one corner behind her, there were two shadows peeking
and one of them had a tear streaming from his cheek.
Chapter 2: The Stranger in the Night
That night, Fifi was in her Cadillac, still crying over the fact that Hamton has left
her for another girl: Sophia K. Pig.
She buried her face in her pillow and sobbed, "Oh, eet's not fair! Eet just eezn't fair!"
Suddenly, she hears knocking on her door. She opened it up to see a shadowy figure with a black
leather jacket.
The figure said, "Hi! I just want to know where the Weenie Burger is? I'm kinda lost."
Fifi told him, "Eet's down ze road and make a right till you see eet."
He thanked her and turned to leave, but he could see that she wasn't feelng too good.
"Is something wrong?" he asked.
"Well, maybe." Fifi responded. "Eet's just...okay zhere EEZ something wrong! I have
been broken out of love...again! I am just not good at keeping a permanent boyfriend!" She turned
back to her pillow and sobbed.
"Wow." said the figure overwhelmed. "That stinks, uh, no offense though."
She turned back to him and asked, "Have you ever been unlucky at love before?"
"Not lately no." the figure wiped away her tear and kissed her on the cheek. Fifi's
eyes grew wide as she touched her kissed cheek. The figure continued, "But can I be your date
for tonight if that's alright with you?"
She quickly nodded and said, "Oui! of course vous weell! Oh merci beau coup, Monsieur!"
She hugged him real tight and he was blushing till his cheeks turned red (in the dark that is).
As they were walking down the road, Fifi turned to look at the boy's tail and sure enough
it had a white stripe on it, so he is a skunk. As she leaned her head against his shoulder,
the mysterious boy smiled and knew that he'll get lucky tonight.
It was Friday and the toonsters heard Fifi's loud mourning and want to go and comfort
her, but she soon came in smiling. In fact, she was so happy, that she didn't notice her friends
wanting to talk to her.
Babs Bunny was the first to speak: "Uh, hey Fifi. What's up?"
"Oh, eet eez great!" Fifi replied.
Shirley then said, "So, we heard of you losing Hamton and you felt sad about it, but
why be happy all of a sudden?"
"Oh eet's because last night, I found another love of my life!"
Buster asked next: "How do you know he loves you?"
"Simple, he waz ze first to keez me on ze cheek! Oh eet eez ze greatest zing zat
haz happened to moi!" And with that, she skipped to class.
The toons were looking at each other. Fifi got another date? How is that possible?
Plucky then said, "There is something strange going on around here." Buster, Babs, Shirley,
and Hamton nodded their heads.
Buster said in a brave tone, "We have to get to the bottom of this right now!"
Chapter 3: Searching for Answers
If the toonsters are willing to find out who Fifi's new lover was, they have to ask
her a few questions. On the way to Fifi's Cadillac at the end of school, they bumped into Calamity Coyote, who was carrying a box of mechanical supplies.
"Sorry, Calamity," Hamton said as he picked up a few batteries. "We didn't see you there."
In response, the kid genius held up a sign that said, "It's okay, I should really watch
where I am going though." After saying "Thanks" (with a sign of course), he continued on his
way, so did the toonsters.
They got to the Cadillac and asked Fifi what the guy looked like.
"Well," she began, trying to recall. "I do remember zat he looked alot like a shadow
and he spoke kindly toward moi. I saw zat he had a white stripe on his tail, I knew right away
zat he was a skunk! I haven't seen many boy skunks in ACME Acres, but I know zat zis one really
does care about my pain and sorrow. And now, I know zhere EEZ someone who I can truly love!
As the toonsters left, Buster said to Plucky, "Did you get the description, Pluckster?"
"Got it." the green duck replied.
"Like, Fifi really is zonned out about her new boyfriend." Shirley said.
Babs then spoke up: "Yeah, but can he really be everything that she's asked for?"
"I think we'll find more answers if we can find that guy." Hamton then said. "Remember
Fifi said that he's alot like a shadow, well, I think we can find him in the night."
"Good thinking, Hamton." Buster said patting his friend's back.
Later that night, the toonsters hid around the Junkyard, waiting for the boyfriend to
arrive. Shirley was ready with her camera to take (non- flash) pictures of the person. All was
quiet until suddenly the mysterious skunk approached from the corner. Shirley saw that he had
more than a black leather jacket, he also had blue fur, a long tail, and that wretched odor
that made the others want to run away from.
"Hiya Feef." the boyfriend said. The toons were ready to get all the data about him.
"Bonjour, mon amor." Fifi replied as she came to hug him.
"How's it goin?" the skunk's tail began to go wild as he felt her love.
"Eet's been goeeng well I guess." Fifi blushed a bit, she wanted to kiss him but she
was nervous.
The two sat in the Cadillac and had a conversation. Fifi looked lovingly in her unknown
lover's eyes.
"So, tell moi a little about yourself. Do you live around here?"
"Nah," the skunk responded, scratching the back of his head. "You could say I'm new
here. I just want to check around ACME Acres because I've heard the people here were nice and
I want to see what made it so special."
Fifi began to lean on his shoulder. "Well, there eez a lot of zhings zat can happen
here at ACME Acres. Since vous first came to see moi, I'll show you around the place."
The blue skunk began to blush. "Gee thanks, uh,..."
"Fifi. Fifi La Fume at your service. And vous are.."
"Richard, just Richard. Nice to meet you too." They shook hands in greeting.
Then the skunk began to reach into his jacket pocket. "By the way, see what I got from
my old home." He took out a small music box and it played the waltz. "Shall we?"
"Let's shall!" Fifi happily exclaimed. And immediately they began to waltz around the
junkyard.
The toonsters watched their dancing and began commenting. "That skunk looks very graceful."
Buster said.
"If only you could do the same back at the prom." Babs responded. And Buster knew he
got burned.
As the two finished, Fifi said, "Oh, zat was fun!"
"Glad you enjoyed it." Richard said. "Good Night Fifi." And with that, he left the
ACME Junkyard. The toonsters quietly headed out too.
"Hey Shirl did you take some pictures?" Plucky asked.
"I did." Shirley responded. "A few on the back, the sides, and the front of his body."
"What about his face?" Hamton asked.
"Oh well, I ran out of film." And immediately, the others looked sternly at her. "But
luckily, I got a photographic memory." And she put up a portrait of the skunk.
"Good work guys," Babs said. "At least we have what our secret boyfriend looks like."
Hamton then spoke up: "So, how will we know who he is now?"
Buster responded, "Well Hamton old pig, we better ask a few questions to some of the
guys around ACME Loo. Maybe one of them has a motive for this." And the others nodded in agreement, if there were no other skunks in ACME Loo (except Pepe Le Pew), someone else may have the smarts to pull it off.
Chapter 4: Investigating ACME Acres
Today is Saturday and the toonsters knew it was a great time to ask a few people some questions.
Since no one is at school, the other students could be anywhere.
"Where should we start?" asked Plucky.
"Let's try Calmity Coyote." said Buster. "A kid genius like him should probably know
something about this."
The toonsters spotted Calamity, who as usual, trying to catch Little Beeper. He was about
to, but then both were stopped by Buster, Babs, Plucky, Shirley, and Hamton. The kids settled
down at a nearby bench and began asking questions.
"So," said Hamton. "Do you know anything about a skunk named Richard?" Calmaity thought for a moment and his eyes lit up, for he knew about him. He began to hold up multiple signs
to talk to his friends.
"Yeah, I know him. He told me he isn't from around here, so I usually show him a few
sites. But sometimes, he gets a little lost and has to come to others for help. I don't blame
him, some of us are like that these days."
Then Little Beeper continued. "By the way, have you smelled his odor?" The young red
roadrunner covered his nose with his wing. "Man, does that guy stink! Which is probably the
reason why Fifi won't stop talking about him." Then Calamity's cell phone began to ring and he saw it was a text message.
After looking at it he responded, "Sorry I've got a really big deal about to go down."
"Like, what is it?" asked Shirley looking a little suspicious.
"All I can say is...it's really big! This guy is strict about these things y'know?"
Calamity started to run for it, leaving the others confused including Little Beeper.
Soon, the red roadrunner looked left and right and held up a sign that read, "I gotta
go too. Y'know so I won't be late for anything." He zoomed out in a heartbeat.
Then Buster said, "Man, there sure are some crazy characters at our school."
While continuing to search for clues, the toonsters were getting hungry and they headed
to the food court down at the mall. While looking for a restaurant to take, Fifi surprisingly
greeted them and she carrying a note.
She ran to her friends and exclaimed, "Hey guys! Guess what? I received the news zat
Pepito Le Peu eez comeeng to town!"
"Who's Pepito Le Peu?" asked Hamton. "We never heard of him." The others looked at the
note she was carrying. It was written in fancy cursive and it was written with a black pen.
"Well," Fifi continued. "He eez my couzeen and he eez considered by heez friends as
a master of dating een France! And now he's comeeng to visit us tomorrow."
"Like, that sounds exciting." said Shirley looking interested. " But how do you know
he's that good or some junk."
"Oh vous weell find out for sure, but I must be off right now. I can't be here too long
or I can't feeneesh my homework for school zhe next week. Au revoir." And Fifi took back the
note, went down the elevator, and out through the front door.
"Hey guys," Buster began. "I think we should finish our homework too. That way, there
won't be any trouble figuring out this case." The others agreed and they started for home.
Later that evening, Babs called her friends and said, "Hey guys, I think I found something!"
They met and saw Fifi and Richard inside the Weenie Burger. They both were sipping down their
milkshakes and having their own conversation.
"So have you ever been to ozher places around ze world?" Fifi asked.
"Well, not really." replied Richard. "But it would be interesting to go to France; I
heard it is very fancy there." His tail began to support his chin for thought.
"Oh, eet eez!"
"Yeah? So uh..." Richard began to scratch the back of his head again, but the toonsters
noticed something: the bottom part of his palm is pushing against his ear and when he took it
out, there was an earpiece.
Babs started looking pretty suspicious. "I think our little boyfriend is a little short
on words these days."
"If he has an earpiece," Buster began. "Then there must be someone else telling him
what to do." The five began to look around for anyone, anything suspicious.
Then Plucky spoke up, "Hey! Look!" He pointed at two shadowy figures sitting at the top
of one of the buildings. One had a remote control and the other was holding a walkie-talkie.
They all began to climb up the fire escape and crept up to the shadows.
"Hey you!" screamed Buster. The two shadows turned their heads around and started to
run. They both jumped down from the building and into the trash bin. The others followed. The
toonsters began to chase them down the sidewalk and down to the park. One of the shadows dropped
a bag of gumballs and the five toonsters slipped and fell in the pond. They all began to walk
out all soaking wet.
"Who were those guys?" asked Hamton drying himself.
"I don't know," said Shirley shaking her feathers out. "But like, I know that that skunk
is very clever at having two guys helping him out without letting Fifi know. And I'll make him
pay for what he did to my hair!" And then Buster spotted something shiny. He picked it up and
put it in his pocket, knowing full well that he must examine it.
Chapter 5: Clues in the School
At Monday, while getting their books out, the five curious toonsters were thinking about
Richard and his two assistants. They know that he likes Fifi, but where exactly did he come
from and what is his motive for being Fifi's new boyfriend? They have been pondering over this
all day, if the teachers weren't looking of course.
Then, the bell rang for lunch. Some students were getting in line for the food while
others were taking their own food out of their lunchbags. Furrball took out a cheese sandwich,
Calamity, sitting next to him, was using a RC metal arm to cook up some "brain food," Sweety
was having birdseed and gummy worms, and Dizzy of course was eating the table away. When Babs
and Shirley sat next to Fifi, the violet skunk didn't seem to notice them, she only had one
thing on her mind: Richard. She can't seem to stop talking about him either. So, Babs and shirley
started their own conversation with Buster, Plucky, and Hamton at the next table.
"Fifi is solid gone!" Babs exclaimed. "You don't know what it's like listening to her
over and over!"
"I can imagine." said Buster. "Anyway, during our little meeting with Richard's helpers,
I found this." And the blue bunny took out what it looks like an Invisalign Mouthgard, but the
side says "Mouthpiece." He put it on his front teeth and it immediately changed his voice to
a self-confident, sophisticated guy. Even Babs began to fall for him.
"Hmmm." Hamton thought. "If Richard used this, than maybe he'd done a few changes to
himself to try to be attractive."
"I think you're right, Pigster." said Plucky
"Like, that's a good start," said Shirley. "But that's still not enough. We have to
keep looking if we are THAT desperate to find out."
"About what?" said a voice from behind. The toonsters turned around and saw a blue violet
boy skunk. He had a black leather jacket and he had styled his hair to a fro hawk. "Sorry didn't
mean to startle you."
"Oh!" exclaimed Fifi as she jumped from her table and headed straight toward the boy.
"I'm sorry. My friends, zis eez Pepito Le Peu. I forgot to mention he zat he arrived early today.
Pepito, zhese are my friends, Buster, Babs, Shirley, Plucky, and Hamton."
"Nice to meet you all and thanks couseen." said Pepito. "Vous see, mon ami. I have been
heareeng about how great ACME Acres eez. Fifi has written daily on what she eez doing now and
since she wrote about a boy skunk who likes her, I decided I can give heem some teeps." The
toonsters were very impressed on how Fifi's cousin spoke French perfectly.
"So, how eez zhe life goeeng for vous? Life, eet eez short indeed, but everyday, een my opineeon, eez a surprise zat eez always waiting to be opened. Zat eez why zis eez called zhe present y'know?"
Shirley was staring at him then turned to Fifi and said, "Woah, like, that was real
good! I'm a believer."
"I know!" Fifi giggled. "He's very talented in zhese sort of zhings."
"Yeah and I'm good at changing my accent too." said Pepito in regular tone. "Well, it's
been great talking to ya, but now I have to tend to some important business. I'll be at this school for a while so I'll see ya soon." And with that, both he and Fifi left.
Later while walking down the hall to get back home, the toonsters noticed a sign reminding
everyone of the Homecoming Dance this week. It was already obvious to them that Fifi will ask
Richard to be her date. But suddenly, Hamton spotted something shiny through the window of the
cafeteria door. They went inside and looked inside the trash can. There, beside a crumpled up
smelly lunchbag, there was a small battery covered in fluff.
"Do you think that this belonged to one of the shadow guys?" Plucky asked.
"It could be." Hamton said. "Either the one with the walkie talkie or the one with the
remote control."
"But what would Richard need with a remote control?" Buster asked.
"I don't know." answered Babs. "That doesn't make any sense at all."
That night, the toonsters once again were spying on the two skunk lovers inside the
Cadillac. The toonsters looked at the back window to not get caught, but they saw that there
was a noticeable change in Richard; he didn't have the earpiece, but he was still talking smooth.
"So what," began Shirley. "Like, he didn't want to be told anymore?" They looked at
her sternly, reminding her that this wasn't the time to joke around. Soon the passenger door
swung open and Fifi and Richard decided to go out to the park. Buster motioned for his friends
to follow him inside the Cadillac. They began to search for clues inside out.
"Like, what is this?" said Shirley as she picked up a bunch of notecards that must've
fell out of Richard's jacket pocket.
"Looks like our little boyfriend's been practicing." Buster said examining the cards.
"But I still can't help thinking I've seen this handwriting somewhere before, but I can't remember
where."
"Boy," said Shriley. "This guy is like, a little more tricky than we thought."
"Yeah," agreed Babs. "So far, we got a few clues that don't fit. Two shadow guys, a
mouthpiece, the battery, the notecards, and that mysterious Richard."
"Other than that," added Buster. "There were a lot of boys who were chased by Fifi and
they always run away because of her smell. The only boy skunk she ever went on a date with was
Johnny Pew, but that relationship was short-lived. Richard however is different, but still something
doesn't seem right about him."
"This can only mean one thing." Hamton declared.
"Yeah," said Plucky. "Fifi's gotta get a new perfume if she really is THAT desperate."
"No, not that!" screamed Hamton. "Well, yeah, she could sure use a new odor for her new date, but that's not the point! The point is that this case's gonna get a lot harder than usual."
Chapter 6: You can Learn a Lot by Reading
Today is Thursday, and the toonsters were a little tired of the whole investigation.
Tonight's the night of the Homecoming Dance and the festivities were already being prepared
in the auditorium. Babs and Shirley were talking to themselves on who they want to take to the
dance until they hear a familiar voice from behind.
"Babs! Shirley!" exclaimed Fifi running across the hall. "Vous wouldn't belieeve what
happened!"
"Did Richard ask you to be his date?" asked Babs.
"Oui! But how did vous know?"
"Oh, you'll be surprised." responded Shirley.
"Well, I just thought vous should know and boy, weell you be surprised when you see him."
Fifi continued down the hall, skipping quite happily.
"Yup." Babs said quietly. "We'll be surprised alright."
"Oh no!" Shirley slapped her head knowing she forgot something.
"What is it?"
"I, like, just forgot. I had a book that needs to be returned to the library!"
"That's no problem. All you have to do is return it, pay for it..."
"But it's 4 months overdue!"
Babs looked quite shocked. "Why did you keep it that long?!"
"Well, like since the book was about self-esteem issues, I had to work on mine for over
two weeks and I was happy about it. So happy, I forgot all about it."
"Well." said Babs looking sternly at her friend. "What have we got to lose? Let's go."
After the girls returned and paid for the overdue book, they were surprised to see that
Pepito was here too.
"Hey Pepito." greeted Babs, as she walked to the table where he sat. The blue skunk
had two books, one he was reading and one that was laying on the table.
He looked up and said, "Oh! Hey uh, nice to meet you!"
"Pepito!" exclaimed Shirley. "Like, have you forgotten already? I'm Shirley, this is
Babs. Don't forget about us!"
"I'll try."
"So," said Babs looking interested in the book on the table. It had the title, "The
Basics of Love." "What's that you're reading?"
"Hmm?" Pepito asked. "Oh! This? This is "Love Beyond Circumstances." The book over there
was something that I used when I was just starting out a relationship with my girl for the first
time. Now, that I'm confident on what I'm doing, I decided to go on to the next level."
"That doesn't sound too bad." Babs said respectfully.
"Indeed." Then looking at the book on the table then at the girls, he picked it up and
said, "Say, how would you two like it if you would like to have this? I don't need it anymore."
"You serious?" asked a surprised Shirley. "Like that'll be great! Thanks!" And the girls
gratefully took the book.
"Well," said Pepito stretching his arms. "I better go now. It's almost time for the dance.
Au revoir!" The skunk got out of his chair, pushed it back into the table, and popped a stick of gum
in his mouth as he walked out through the automatic doors.
"Gee, what a swell guy." said Babs.
"You said it." replied Shirley.
As the two girls walked out of the library, they were really excited to look inside
Pepito's old book. They opened it up to a random page and it said, "Boys and girls going out
on a date usually go hand in hand in order to keep them from being separated and that's good.
But sometimes if they stop to talk about themselves, it's probable that might be willing to
tell a little lie. Mostly it's because they don't want to shame their date in front of their
face. Some lovers can lie about their grieving past, their family, what they do, and their personality.
All this and more they keep secret, so they don't cause them any grief or sadness."
That excerpt gave both of the girls a pause for thought. "Say Babs," Shirley began.
"Like, do you remember the time at the prom when Buster didn't know how to dance?"
Babs thought back and said, "Yeah, I remember. He lied in saying that he knows how because he likes me and doesn't want me to be upset over him. But I'm his friend and he must know that I'll still love him, even if there is something he lacks."
But, their pause for thought stops when a truck carrying a supply of limburger cheese
passes by, leaving both of the girls covering their noses and making yucky faces.
"Like, gross me out!" exclaimed Shirley, looking very disgusted. "That smell is totally...
totally..." Shirley took another sniff of the smelly air. "Familiar. Maybe..."
Babs soon caught on and said, "Of course!" She dialed her cell phone to Buster, Plucky,
and Hamton. "Listen guys, we just figured out the solution to this whole mystery and we think
we know the motive behind all this. Meet us at the school and we'll tell you what we found out
because Fifi has to know the truth!" And with that, the girls immediately started preparing
for tonight, for they know that Fifi's life will never be the same again.
Ch. 7: Richard's Unseen Reflection
The ACME Loo Auditorium has been brightly decorated and the food and refreshments were
on the left side of the wall. Many of the students came with their dates and were having a fun
time talking and dancing. When Fifi and Richard stepped in, it seemed like the whole world was
looking at them and smiling. Even Pepe Le Pew and Penelope Pussycat began to notice them.
"Bonjour, Fifi" greeted Pepe. "I could zee zat you have a found a lover of your own."
"I did, Pepe." responded Fifi. "Oh, I'm just glad I'm not alone anymore. Zis is Richard."
At the same time, Buster, Babs, Plucky, Shirley, and Hamton with Sophie, were having some refreshments
while talking secretly.
"Are you sure we have to do this?" asked Hamton nervously.
"We have to Pigster." repied Plucky. "For her own good."
"Still can't believe it had to be them all along." Buster sighed.
"Shhhh..."hushed Shirley. "Like, not so loud!"
While Richard was still talking with Pepe, the toonsters went up to the young skunk
couple and greeted them. Others soon came wanting to greet Richard and talk to him. Richard
felt shy and a bit flattered.
"Hey, you must be Richard." said Buster as he held up his hand to shake. The blue skunk
shook back. "Me and my friends were wondering if we can ask you a few questions about yourself.
Like uh, where you live, what's your favorite things, and stuff like that."
Richard's eyes shifted from Buster to the bunny's jacket pocket. He could see a shine
from the mouthpiece. Immediately, he figured out what the toonsters were about to do.
Taking a few steps back at the refreshment stand, he started saying, "Uh, sure. Maybe..."
He felt his right hand touch the fruit punch fountain. "Or maybe......."
"NOT!" Richard picked up the fountain, threw out the whole container and its contents started spilling everywhere! The people were covering themselves to not get splashed
too much. To their surprise, Richard began to roll his feet on the fountain, jumped over a guest table, started running across the auditorium, and busted through the door!
"I never saw a boy skunk do zat before." Fifi said looking confused.
"Maybe it's because he's not what you think." replied Babs. "C'mon, we gotta go get
him!" The toonsters began to chase after him, knowing full well they must bring him back to
tell Fifi the truth about her lover.
The toonsters chased Richard down the hall and made a few sharp turns.
"You have to tell Fifi the truth!" shouted Plucky. "You can't just keep it to yourself
forever."
"Are you nuts?" exclaimed Richard in response. "Not only will I get exposed, but I'll
lose my girl as well! I can't let that happen! Not ever!" As the skunk slid across the wet floor,
he picked up the "Caution: Wet Floor!" sign, folded it up, and slid it at them. The five tripped
and slid across the floor and Richard continued to run.
Buster, Plucky, and Hamton got up quickly and tried to catch up, only to have found
themselves lost in three halls in where the skunk could've gone.
"OK, here's the plan," Buster whispered to his pals, giving them each a walkie-talkie.
"I'll take the right hall, Hamton, take the middle, and Plucky, get the left."
"OK!" his two friends nodded. The three began to split up and search through the halls
for Richard.
"Oh man," said Plucky, twitching a bit. "That fruit punch is getting back on me!" The
green duck quickly got to the bathroom to take a #1. After washing his hands, he turned to leave
until he heard a creak from behind. He turned around to see a shadow high above one of the privacy
door toilets. He looked inside and looked up to see a line of toilet paper about to engulf him.
"Hey guys," called Plucky to his friends on the Walkie-talkie.
"What is it, Pluckster?" asked Buster.
"I found...Richard." And in that moment, the skunk busted out of the bathroom and continued to run down the center hall. He soon found out that other people including Calamity,
Pepito, Pepe, and Penelope were also chasing after him. Plucky, being wrapped with toilet paper,
just hopped to keep up.
He was heading for the front door until he felt someone grab his arm and saying "Stop!"
It was Fifi, but her grasp slipped and Richard was slipping on the wet floor. Not taking any
chances, Shirley grabbed the folded wet floor sign and slid it up to Richard. The sign bounced
back from the front and into the skunk. He stepped on it and began sliding across the floor,
into the people, crashing into them, and flying into the air. He soon fell head first in a mop
bucket and he became dazed for a while.
The guests ran to him and Fifi dropped to her knees to help Richard up.
She stared at him saying, "Richard, are vous ashamed of moi?"
"No, it's not that." responded a wet Richard, hanging his head. "I'm just ashamed of
what I did, what I said, that made you fall for me."
"What are you talking about?" Fifi reached for his jacket pocket for a hankerchief and
began to wipe his face, but she soon felt something drip on her hand. She saw white paint dripping
from his back to the floor, even his tail was ripped out. When she finally finished, she saw
his face and gasped. The others also gasped in horror as she saw that Richard wasn't Richard
anymore. In fact, he wan't a skunk, not with a skinny tail with three bandages.
"You?" a shocked Fifi exclaimed. She stepped back as the boy took off his own mouthpiece
and looked up to see the crowd staring at him.
"Yes." replied...FURRBALL.
Ch. 8: Lucky at Love at Last!
Fifi was obviously shocked to see that the blue skunk who loved her was the unlucky
blue cat who's trying to find a home.
"Furrball. Just as I thought all along." said Babs proudly.
"Me too." said Hamton.
"Ooh! There you are, Furrball!" exclaimed Elmyra who as expected was running to get
both Fifi and Furrball in her clutches! "Now I'll hold you, and squeeze you, and..."
"STAY OUT OF THIS!" screamed the entire Tiny Toons gang as they pushed Elmyra away,
leaving her dazed as well.
"Okay, as we were saying...but," added Plucky. "He wasn't alone on this, he had some
help. Right Calamity and Pepito?" Both boys were surprised and looked at each other.
"You too?" Fifi asked the coyote and her cousin. Both of them put their hands behind
their back and hung their heads in shame.
"How did vous all know about zis?"
"Well," began Buster. The toonsters one by one began to show the evidence they found.
"It wasn't easy. First, there was the mouthpiece that one of Furrball's helpers dropped. We
knew that the boyfriend wasn't what we thought. Same goes with the notecards, if anyone got too
suspicious on him after talking with an earpiece, he was gonna try to do the talking on his own."
"Then," added Hamton. "There was the battery covered in fluff. It didn't make sense
to us at first, but I just remembered that I recently bumped into Calamity carrying a box of
metallic supplies and it included the exact same batteries that matched the one in the trash
can. The kid genius sure had a lot of things in his hands including making a deal on his cell
phone." Calamity began to grow hot as he saw the battery.
Plucky then asked, "What were you using a remote control for anyway?" The grey coyote
grabbed his controller and started to push different buttons and directions and the ripped up
skunk tail started moving in different directions. The tail was actually the same metallic arm
used to make Calamity's "brain food!"
"Like, about the notecards," Shirley continued. "Other than using them to say the right
things, we also noticed something. There was fancy handwriting that wasn't even Furrball's,
and when we remembered the letter you showed us about Pepito coming to ACME Acres, his writing
was the same one used on the notecards themselves!"
"Finally," concluded Babs. "There was the excerpt from Pepito's first book on dating;
it mentioned how some lovers usually lie to their dates about their life or personality to try
and not disappoint them. And who would have an even more awful life than the blue unlucky alleycat
himself."
"Couseen?" asked Fifi still shocked. "Eez zis all true?"
Still hanging his head, the blue violet skunk said, "Yes, it is. No need to go on. Furrball,
wanna explain the rest?"
After an uncomfortable pause, Furrball sighed and responded, "OK, I'll finish it." And
soon there was a flashback starting with Furrball and Calamity walking down the hall.
"It all started when me and Calamity first heard Hamton say that he was breaking up
with you, Fifi. We saw you there sobbing and I kinda felt your pain. Calamity kept telling me
to just say what I felt about you, but I was shy and I've been known by others to be a mute.
I didn't want to go to her with a stripe on my tail again, but I can't keep holding this feeling
forever. We continued to walk until we bumped into someone we didn't expect: your cousin, Pepito,
He was just sending a letter to you reminding of his arrival because he was a little late.
Pepito continued, "He told me everything that he felt about you wand I thought it sounded
crazy, but I saw that his feelings were real and he wanted my help. So, that afternoon, we began
to change Furrball to look like a skunk. We did his hair, the skunk tail filled with fluff,
the stripe of course, and I even gave him one of my other jackets. But if we want you to really
believe that he was a skunk, he had to smell like one, so we had to bring in something revolting.
We only found one thing: limburger cheese!"
Then Furrball said, "You see the problem of trying to talk to you is that your smell
always gets in the way of it. The stink of the cheese was so overwhelming that I nearly passed
out, eating it bit by bit, smelling every bit of it, and even rubbing myself with it. I even
ate it when I had my cheese sandwich. It took a while to get used to it, but I succeeded. We
had no choice, I had to get used to revolting odors before getting to yours."
Calamity then held up a sign that read, "But there was one more problem, Furrball's
usually nervous when it comes to talking and he studders a bit, so that's why we brought the
earpiece, the mouthpiece, and the notecards to help build his self-confidence and say whatever
he wants without hesitation."
When they finally finished, Fifi turned back to Furrball and said, "But why did vous
have to lie to moi about yourself in ze first place?"
"Isn't it obvious?" replied Furrball. "I'm just a cat who's constantly looking for a
home, but I'm always unsuccessful. I didn't want to make you feel bad, if I did, the whole thing
is off."
"So, vous did all zis to try and impress me?" The entire crowd was looking at Furrball
for his answer.
"Look," started Furrball, blushing and staring at the floor. "I'm very sorry about what
happened that night in the alley (referring to the episode, "Aroma Amore"). You were one of
the first people at this school who was ever nice to me and... I guess I kinda let breeding
stand in the way between and us and I jus..." Before he can finish, he felt a light touch on
his left cheek. His eyeballs looked to see that Fifi had kissed him. When he looked at her face,
he can see tears streaming from her eyes and she was smiling.
"Actions do speak louder than words, y'know?" Fifi quietly said. Furrball first looked
down to his left and then back up to Fifi. She already knew his true feelings toward her, now
he has to prove it to the others. Slowly, he cupped Fifi's face with his little paws and began
to bring it closer. In that moment,...Furrball's lips met Fifi's. The whole crowd, including
Pepe and Penelope was surprised to see this, but they soon smiled, knowing that they were made
for each other.
After they finished, Fifi suddenly grabbed Calamity and Pepito with her tail and brought
them over to give each of them a kiss on the cheek.
"What was that for?" asked Pepito while he and Calamity were rubbing their kissed cheeks.
Fifi responded happily, "Oh, eet was for makeeng zis possible, Furrball couldn't have
done zis without vous."
"Gee, thanks." Then Calamity tapped Pepito on the shoulder. "What is it, Calamity?"
The coyote held up a sign that read, "What about the deal?"
The skunk thought for a moment and then he exclaimed, "Oh! You mean the deal that if
we get Furrball and Fifi together then I'll teach YOU about dating?" He nodded in response.
"Can I join too?" asked another boy. "And me?" "And me?" The other kids were impressed
by Pepito methods that they soon became interested to date as well.
"OK." said a proud Pepito. "Come with me. First, you don't have to say you love that
person right away, keep it secret to yourself, then when you get the chance, send them flowers..."
"Hey guys." exclaimed Buster to the other students. "There's still plenty of time before
the dance is over!"
Smiling, Furrball offered his hand to Fifi. "Shall we?" he asked.
"Let's shall!" chirped Fifi as she joined her hand with the blue cat.
(music plays: So She Dances- Josh Groban)
The dance was great and everyone enjoyed the sight of Furrball and Fifi waltzing around
the dance floor. They were all happy for them, even Sophie and Hamton.
"If you want," said Fifi, staring lovingly in her new lover's eyes. "You can stay at
my place to keep safe for a while."
"I would love that." said Furrball and as the skunk hugged herself against his chest,
he knew that for the first time in his life, he felt lucky.
"Success." Pepito said as he pounded his fist with Calamity.
As the two bunnies watched from their table, Buster said to Babs, "Well, Babs, I think
that this case is closed."
"You said it." answered Babs in agreement.
